Avoid These Common Mistakes When You Sell Your Own House

You are already tired of your own old house and need to start your life anew in another one. Or because of work, you really need to transfer to another suburb to make it easier for you to fulfill your job responsibilities.

Whatever your reason is, you need to prep your own house to sell it. But before setting up your house for listings, beware of the blunders of home – selling which will make your buyers gawk in disappointment.

You have made your house as enticing as possible from the outside. Grasses on the lawn are neatly cut. Fences are repainted. The facade of your home is a welcoming sight. But how did you furnish your house from within?

Here are some of the No-Nos that you might make your buyers turn their backs away from your own house.

1. Poor Lighting
A house with poor lighting makes a dreary scene. Make sure that you have enough lighting devices inside every room. During the day, if the house is still a gloomy mess, see if the windows are cleaned properly.

Foggy windows or those which have a lot of scratch marks reduce the amount of light that may enter through. Neatly tuck or tie curtains during the day so that it will not block the rays of the sun.

2. Wallpapers with Heavy Designs
Yes you dig those lively colors, but you may want to opt for a much more “neutral” design for your interiors. Buyers also have their own flair for designing their homes, so you do not want to turn them off with those heavy wallpaper designs. The best thing to do is to just remove those wallpapers.

If you can afford it, you can paint the wall with a neutral color like beige, after removing the wallpapers. Do not attempt to paint over the wallpapers as this will be a hassle for the new occupants to remove.

3. Bathrooms That Make Everyone Say: Eeeew!
The bathroom is the place you enter to clean yourself so it must also be a hygienic place to begin with. To sell your own house, see to it that your bathroom is also fresh smelling by putting air fresheners to give it a clean feel.

Scrape all the molds in the corners or in between tiles. Clean the foggy windows and keep the bathroom sinks and toilet bowls spic and span.

Always put in mind that your goal is to make the buyers feel upon entering the house that it IS their home indeed. Fix those leaking pipes and faucets and also those faulty kitchen cupboard hinges.

Ask yourself: If I am the buyer, am I comfortable inside? Does each room establish a connection for onlookers? Preparing to sell your house may take effort, but it may also mean a quick selling transaction.
